Blood Bond is a family tree platform that allows users to visually build and manage their lineage.
Blood Bond is a family-focused platform that helps people to create family tree and stay connected with their lineage. It was created to solve a growing problem, such as families are becoming more spread out, disconnected, and unaware of their extended roots. Many people know only a small part of their family story, while the rest slowly fades away.
My role was to design the Tree Creation Module, the interactive canvas where users can add family members, define relationships, visualize generations, edit details and share it.
Scope:
UX Strategy, UI Design, and Interactive Design
Industry:
Family Tech, Social Networking

The goal was to make building a family tree feel simple and natural. It should not feel confusing and time taking like filling out long official forms.
The platform is meant for different types of users. It could be a young adult documenting their roots, parents organizing family history, or elderly users exploring their lineage. So the experience had to be easy to understand, even for someone who is not very comfortable with technology.

In most case studies, you’ll see designers walking through every step of their process, such as brainstorming, wireframing, prototyping, etc . That’s valuable, but here I’d rather focus on something deeper, the value I brought to the table. What I introduced to the application, how I shaped the overall experience, and the role I played in making it clearer, stronger, and more successful.

I made Family Tree-Creation feel Effortless
Family trees can quickly become confusing. Multiple generations, marriages, siblings, and relationships can easily turn into visual clutter. So, I focused on keeping the creation process extremely simple.
The canvas is clean and distraction-free. The “+” action makes it obvious how to grow the tree. Adding a member happens in a side panel, so users never lose context or feel redirected. Relationships are visual and easy to understand, with clear connectors and structured hierarchy.
Adding a member does not redirect the user to a new page. A side panel smoothly appears, allowing them to enter details without losing context. This keeps the experience fluid and prevents confusion.

I Helped Shape the Product Direction
When the idea first started, the concept was simple: create a family tree and allow people to share it. The founder, who is also my friend, was still exploring what the product could become. The direction was not fully defined.
I stepped in and focused on understanding the deeper problem. I did research and began identifying real-life use cases that would give the product purpose beyond just “sharing a tree” or turning it into another social media platform.
We identified that people do not just want to build a family tree, they want to reconnect with relatives, communicate easily, organize events, share opportunities, and strengthen family bonds across cities and countries.
The product shifted from being a simple sharable tree to becoming a structured family network that enables real-life connection and coordination.
Designing this reminded me that sometimes the real job of UX is just helping people feel closer.
